WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME FOR YOUR OUT-OF-STOCK ITEMS?

If the item you are after is out of stock, please reach out for approximate lead times. For most of our furniture, if you’d like to order something that is out of stock the lead time is 14 weeks from the date the deposit is taken. Other items such as custom-made sofas & outdoor settings, the lead time is generally 6-8 weeks. Locally made dining tables have a lead time of 10 weeks.

WHERE DOES BEACHWOOD SHIP?

We ship nationally (including Tasmania). We are happy to obtain a freight quote for you, however sometimes it is best to contact a local removalist company at your end. We have found in the past that we just get in the middle of logistics and it is a smoother process when you deal directly with the removalist company. It normally works out to be cheaper using a freight company who does regular runs from your end to Sydney- oppose to the other way round- due to petrol/ kms. It's great to speak to your local storage companies- and see who they recommend.

For our online purchases, we currently provide automatic delivery rates for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. If you are outside these areas, you (or courier) are welcome to pick up in store or request a freight quote and we'll get back to you within 24hrs.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY PIECE TO BE DELIVERED?

We work with third party removal companies and work around their schedules for deliveries. Payment is handled directly to the company.

For deliveries in the Northern Beaches area deliveries are generally going out weekly. If you’re located around the area and the item ordered is in stock, we can normally arrange for delivery within a week or two of purchase.

IS DELIVERY INCLUDED IN THE PRODUCT PRICE?

No, delivery is charged separately as an additional fee. If you’re purchasing online the delivery cost will appear when you check out and depends on location and weight of the item purchased. If purchasing over the phone, we will quote you on the delivery fee and ask that delivery be paid cash directly to our drivers upon arrival. Certain pieces such as beds & bunks might need assembly, which we also offer for an additional cost.

About us

IS BEACHWOOD AN AUSTRALIAN COMPANY?

Yes, Beachwood is an Australian-owned, family business local to the Northern Beaches since 1993.

WHERE IS YOUR FURNITURE MADE? IS ALL OF IT MADE 100% IN AUSTRALIA?

All our reclaimed hardwoods & Oregon pieces are 100% Australian made. Our Chinese/Australian carpenter who has been working with us exclusively for more than 25 years was originally based in Brookvale, but is now making offshore, which allows us to keep our prices nice and low so people can afford to have our lovely furniture that is all solid timber and great quality.

We also have other pieces which are locally made here in Australia and import some other pieces from Africa, India and Indonesia. We carry a range of furniture and homewares from different corners of the world!

HOW DOES BEACHWOOD SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT?

We are constantly working on making our business more sustainable. Below are some sustainable actions we’ve currently implemented and others we are proactively working to achieve:

  • Our Warriewood warehouse functions fully on solar powered energy.
  • We recycle all our cardboard and plastic waste from our packaging.
  • Our locally made furniture is handmade here in Australia using reclaimed timbers.
  • We use FSC certified oak - sourced from sustainable forests.

At the moment, we are exploring ways to make Beachwood a carbon neutral business - but it is an ongoing process and we are still learning! If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear them - feel free to get in touch: us@beachwood.com.au

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY 'RECLAIMED TIMBERS'?

Supply from reclaimed timbers come from old buildings including barns, factories and warehouses. They can also be sourced from railway sleepers, fences and old shipping pallets. There's also a supply of timber which is recovered from trees which have toppled over, died naturally or fallen into rivers.

Reclaimed timber means that a tree is not broken down by machine processing and made into an altogether new product, but rather taken from its original application and repurposed.

HOW CAN I MINIMISE LEACHING?

Unfortunately, leaking tannings is a problem that occasionally occurs when reclaimed (or new) timbers are cut and the natural oils rise to the top.

To minimise leaching, do not sand back the table this will cause more tannin 'bleeding'. It's suggested to hose the table (pressure hose would be great), as hosing is a great way to remove forcing and draw the tannins out. To get rid of the stains, you can use either use sugar soap (if in a rush) or Napisan (or a deck cleaner containing sodium percarbonate) mixed in a bucket of hot water - about 2 cups of Napisan to half a bucket of water. Apply the mixture with a bristle brush/ broom, leave for about 15 minutes, and then wash it off thoroughly with a hose. This method may require a few washes/ scrubs to get most of the tannins out of the table. Once this is done, let the surface dry completely for a minimum of 48 hours before applying the low sheen white paint - Zinsser Cover stain white. If you apply the paint too soon- then yellowing can occur and that is the tannins/ leaking under the paint- creating the stains.

The positive side of the tannins is that it's only a surface problem and there is not an underlying issue in the wood itself, nor is this a fault.

HOW CAN I CLEAN MY FURNITURE?

Oak is a natural material and should be treated as such. When maintaining your furniture it is best to use all natural, oil-based cleansers or simply wipe down your furniture with a soft cloth dampened in linseed oil. Never wipe oak furniture with an overly wet cloth or strong cleaning agents as this may remove the protective oils from the table and may leave surface marks. Instead, soak up spillages with a dry cloth and gently dab the area with a damp cloth to try and remove as much liquid as possible.

Ensure the surface is dry after the cleaning process to avoid unwanted watermarks to avoid staining. Use a clean cloth or paper towel. Dust your furniture frequently using a clean, soft cloth. When cleaning or dusting, always clean with the grain of the wood in order to avoid scratches. Remember to take extra care to lift objects off of your furniture and never to drag or slide them across the timber’s surface.

MY TABLE TOP IS STICKY. HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

The stickiness of the table top is caused by the natural resin in the timber. The best thing to do is to lightly sand back the top and put low sheen white paint / Zinsser, which can be purchased from any hardware store (use 2 parts Zinsser & 1 part water) and apply with a cloth rubbing it into the grain and immediately wiping it off. You can do this with a brush but you will get brush strokes. Repeat this process twice.

For extra protection, you can also apply a natural clear beeswax on the table top. Porter's Paints have lovely natural waxes.

THERE'S MOVEMENT IN MY FURNITURE, IS IT FAULTY?

No, it is not faulty. Hairline cracks in paint are caused by change of temperatures from hot to cold, causing movement of the timbers making the paint split / cracks. Some people also have air conditioning systems, which also place pressure on solid timbers. Our carpenter has assured us this will have no effect on the structure of your items.

HOW CAN I REFINISH MY PAINTED WHITE OUTDOOR FURNITURE?

To refinish your outdoor furniture, the best thing is to lightly sand back the top and put low sheen white paint / Zinsser Cover Stain white primer which can be purchased from any hardware store (use 2 parts Zinsser & 1 part water) and apply with a cloth rubbing it into the grain and immediately wiping it off. You can do this with a brush but you will get brush strokes. Repeat this process twice.

For extra protection, it's best to get Turps & Pale Boiled Linseed Oil from Bunnings or Mitre 10. Please do not use full strength linseed oil- as then the surface will become sticky. You will need to apply with a brush and will need equal amounts of each product - mix and apply with a brush.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY LOOSE SOFA COVERS?

All our stock sofas have loose covers which are removable for easy cleaning. We recommend dry cleaning only. If you decide to do a cold wash, this is at your own risk. As the covers are linen or linen blends they cannot be placed in dryers. To dry, they must be placed down flat and in the shade - to play it safe, have them dry cleaned.

CAN BEACHWOOD BUY BACK MY FURNITURE?

Unfortunately no, we do not sell second hand furniture. All our reclaimed timbers come from old houses, floors etc. Please be aware that there are naturally occurring marks and blemishes that demonstrate its recycled nature. Also with the finishes, these are all done as a hand process, so finishes will vary.

CAN THE COLOURING OF MY FURNITURE VARY IF I BUY EVERYTHING IN ONE FINISH?

All our finishes are done by hand, therefore there might be slight variations between each item. If you are looking to buy a set of furniture in one finish and want it to look similar, we recommend purchasing everything at once.

If you are unsure of a finish and live close by we suggest visiting our Showroom in Warriewood - we have a wide variety of samples to help you choose the perfect timber for your home.
